2007 Idaho Energy and Green Building Conference

Meeting the Sustainability Challenge. October 24 to 26.

History of the Idaho Energy Conference.
It wasn't always a two-track conference. In the beginning, back in 1986, about 40 jurisdictions were working on adoption of the Bonneville Power Administation's Northwest Energy Code. Building officials were the main audience during the first 10 years of the conference, coming together to work on technical aspects of Northwest Energy Code implementation.

By the late 1990's we all recognized that in order to move ahead efficiently with code adoption and better energy policies within Idaho we needed support from jurisdiction leadership. The conference committee, led by the Local Government Energy Committee, decided that a track for city and county leaders was key to adoption of good energy policies.

By the beginning of the new century, another important factor emerged; the price of energy had begun to make an impact on the economic well being of Idaho communities. Thus the responsibility of the conference to educate on broader community sustainability issues was conceived.

This fall marks the 21st anniversary of the Idaho Energy Conference, the longest running conference of its kind in the Northwest. In addition to its longevity, the conference has the distinction of providing a casual forum where city and county policy makers and the technical implementers of code and energy efficiency programs meet to negotiate the future of conservation and energy in Idaho.

This 21st year also marks the beginning of a new partnership with the USGBC - Idaho Chapter, thus the name change from Idaho Energy Conference to Idaho Energy and Green Building Conference. We hope this partnership will open the doors to a broader constituency to educate and promote the importance of "green buildings" and their impact on our environment. We look forward to a long-lasting and productive partnership with USGBC.
