Rain screen for drainage plane
Main / The Durable Home

Remodeling magazine October issue 2007 features in product focus on Benjamin Obdyke rain screen. this is a great product with a proven drainage and bulk water barrier ( not perforated wrap) underneath.

Any remodeling contractor worth his salt should be installing this behind his cladding systems. you can kind  of understand that builders do not use this because most of them have never opened up a wall to see what it looks like 10 years from now. But as a remodeler how can a contractor  not think about water intrusion issues and how  to solve them? the rain screen provides a continuous air space behind the cladding system separating it from the weather resistant barrier. This give the water a place to flow away from the wall assembly and out of the wall. What about COSTS?  I can see the questions now, well figure up how  much it would cost you to tear off the siding and fix the drainage plane that you did not install on one job if it failed. How much does it cost to fix what a person does not  do right the first time? thousand upon thousands of dollars. Ask me I know!! Hindsight is always 20/20. www.benjaminobodyke.com
