Sell the Sizzle, not the Steak
Main / Building Green Concepts

I spent the most interesting day with OldenKamp Construction, Geoff and Josh! (Really nice guys!) We looked at four of their homes in different stages of construction. These fellows are forging the way with energy efficiency, making improvements with every home, defining basis of Green Building, and energy efficient construction techniques.

Beginning with the question which has been posed: "What's Green"?  So starts the journey of finding the "Best Green Practices" in the Valley.  This is an invitation from Idaho Blue Insulation to the Builders of the Treasure Valley...With LEED for Homes, and NAHB Green Builder, and Eco-brokers, and UltraTouch...  I'd like to begin gathering best practices and share them with www.buildingcredibility.com fans.

So, looking for Energy Star?  Watch out, because NET ZERO will be here in our lifetime.  But never fear, the answers are here, we're finding them.

Builders in the Treasure Valley each have their best practices, and willingness to share will speed the day.  Today, Geoff and Josh shared many of their best practices with me...so as the messanger...  Here's what's coming up, in detail, the next Green Building Concepts blog topics:

-  Sell the Sizzle, not the Steak

-  Can this home pass a Blower Door Test?   What one is?  (Every home, new or existing, should have this done as an assessment of the shell's energy efficiency.)

-  Placing furnace, ducts and return air vents?  Here's a great concept!

-  What about whole house air exchange and fresh air intake?

-  What is a jump duct, and how is routed?  Passive air exchange?

-  Fire Sprinklers and their effect on Energy Star insulation install.  Those fire boys are having fun with efficiency.

-  Bring commercial concepts into home building, try pulling air from several places at once.

-  What is Net Zero?
