I received an email this week from National Association of Home Builders Public Affairs staff asking for input with respect to consumer protection strategies. They asked for my thoughts about what potential home-buyers can do protect themselves if good, reputable builders unexpectedly run into financial problems and cannot complete a job. For example: what kinds of questions should a potential client ask? What third party sources exist that can offer object evaluations of a builders financial stability? So, I thought I would share my reply with my BuildingCredibility.com blog readers.

We've all seen the commercials showing the guy giving his loved one the diamonds or the new car. Any schmuck can give his loved one a diamond or a new car. Why not give her a new home for Christmas.

Every year the National Association of Home Builders publishes The Cost of Doing Business Study The study is based on the results of a financial survey conducted by the National Association of Home Builders and provides a rare glimpse at profitability, cost of sales, and expenses from hundreds of home builders across the country.
