Rubicon Construction is a 100% Energy Star Builder, LEED Pilot Program Member, and is focused on sustainable construction in all projects regardless of size and location.  Rubicon uses the Systems Built construction method where homes or projects are constructed in a climate controlled offsite facility.  The offsite construction process has many “green” features built into the process and can increase the quality and peace of mind of going green.

The Four Reasons Consumers Purchase a Green Home Part II
Main / High Performance Idaho Green Builder

Previously we discussed improving your health and reducing your environmental impact as 2 of the reasons, now let's look at saving money on your utility bills and ensuring the highest quality construction.

Saving Money

With the ever rising cost of energy who doesn't want to pick up some savings on their monthly bills?  Consider that month to month, people who live in green homes save money by consuming 40% less energy and 50% less water than standard homes. Over the years, that adds up to big savings.  Mortage companies are starting to allow you to add the savings to your adjusted gross income when you go for a home loan.

Highest Quality Construction

How is this ensured?  One word . . .  VERIFICATION.  Green homes are tested and inspected by independent 3rd party companies to ensure that it is built in compliance with those standards.  The set of standards that LEED or Energy Star builders are required to follow build quality and value into your home by the incorporation of:

Climate-Specific Recommendations.
An energy-efficient home built in Florida would not necessarily be energy efficient if it were built here.  For a home to be energy efficient, it must be designed for regional weather characteristics. .

Additional Inspections for Quality.
Homes that earn the ENERGY STAR or LEED undergo more inspections and testing than code-built homes. The verification process helps identify and correct mistakes before they are hidden behind the walls and holds builders to a higher standard. As a result, independent inspection and testing can help improve the quality and energy efficiency of a home.

You might notice that in this 2 part post I have focused around quality and health as the driving forces behind the choice of building green.  It continues to be my belief that if you consider the health benefits and the independent certification that the environmental benefits and the cost savings will fall into place0.

What do you want to see?  What is really the most important for you?
