How can you truly know if the professional (home builder, realtor, other) is the best?
Main / Idaho Real Estate Insights

This is the question we ponder every day.

When I first set out to develop a website with a directory I did dozens and dozens of focus groups. What I learned, was that what people want is not another resource with names, phone numbers and links. What they really want to know is who is the best! They want to know what builder, tradesperson, realtor, painter, etc is the best.

There are two problems with "the best." First "the best" is relative. Who is to say that one buider is better than another. Let me assure you that for every person that says this builder is better than that home builder there is some one willing to argue with them. What builder in town does not think they are the best? If they did not they should not be in business? Another  thing all builders say is that they have the best sub-contracors in town.

Second problem with "the best" is that every business has their place. Some are the low cost leaders, some supply exclusive products. The best plan for any business is to determine what niche they want to own and differentiate their company from the pack.

So how can you know if the professional you are considering is the right choice? You have to do your homework. You are going to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars of your money and this decision is something that requires your due dilligence.

Researching the the surface stuff is easy- they have a nice website, you have driven by some homes and some people you know say they have heard of them.

Now it is time to take a closer look. During July we will focus on making the decision. What questions should you ask? What resources are available?

An Eagle homebuilder is expected to plead guilty to one felony forgery charge and settle a related civil case in July. The case is one of many hitting state courts since the housing bubble burst two years ago.

One of the Boise area's best- known developers saw a townhouse project he built in Southeast Boise fall into foreclosure this week.

Thoughts...the Statesman article was not too roses
