As you are starting to become more familiar with the Systems Built Construction method let's take the time to look at why I have selected it as my method of choice in constructing my high performance (green) homes and projects and also what are the standard features of that go into these homes.

In really looking at the sustainable aspects I find Systems Built Technology much more practical and environmentally friendly than traditional methods.  These benefits are largely attributed to the offsite climate controlled construction process.

• Segregation and recycling of construction waste in one area at the production site.
•  Climate controlled construction. No mold. No squeaky floors.
• All trades work for 1 company. Any of you that have been part of a meeting where 19 subs are told you are building green and to see the blank stares and resistance understand the resistance to education by some trades is tough.
• Central trucking of all materials reduces # of trips. No ½ full trucks. No multiple trips to the project site.
• Inspections are conducted in real time. This assures that the product will pass home performance testing or the level of LEED certification you are trying to achieve before the product is completed.

Not all Systems Built companies are the same. Rubicon has chosen to partner with a company where the following features are STANDARD :

•  E-Star rated windows and mastic on ducts
• Energy star appliances
• Sealing of heating of heating and cooling vents during construction
• Caulking or foaming all penetrations
• Formaldehyde free insulation
• Use of recycled materials (OSB, Cementitious (Hardi-Plank) siding, composite doors
• Construction paper is installed to prevent contaminants from entering the subfloor
• Properly flashed & sealed doors and windows to prevent air infiltration.
