Heat Pump for the Holidays
Main / Owner Builder Log

We had our heat turned on the other day and our geothermal open loop heat pump provides the most comfortable heat I have ever felt. I am so excited to have such an efficient unit drawing heat from our ground water and heating our home quietly and economically.

It took a bit of extra coordination because it requires pluming from the well as well as constant year round drainage. So we had to dig a trench and bury a line to an existing draining on our property but it seems to be working just fine.

One great thing is that the water coming out is still around 50 degrees so it can be used for animal stalk tanks in the winter and for irrigation in the summer. It puts out around 8 gallons / minute of clean well water. It seems like a waste not to use it for something. Next summer we plan on planting some grapes or some small crop on our property.

I am looking forward to many years of comfortable heating and cooling from this sweet little unit. Thanks Carrier and Air Source HVAC  :)
