Some big retailers are promoting compact fluorescent light bulbs as a way to save energy. But improper disposal of the bulbs creates a hazard, because they contain small amounts of mercury.

Oil is set to hit eclipse $150 a barrel. The New York Times reported yesterday that Natural Gas is set for a 40% spike. How will this affect where we live and how we live?

As a builder I cant help but be impacted by the constant deluge of bad news. Crude oil increases impact our business from the materials that we use to the transportation of people to jobs. Declines in housing starts and house values decrease margins and economies of scale. Is there a bright side? Certainly.

Crude oil jumped over $10 a barrel yesterday. The corresponding effect is expected to be $.50cents at the pumps 4 weeks from now. What people aren't noticing is that Natural Gas is increasing along the same lines.

As a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Pilot builder I have the opportunity to communicate openly with the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) about the trends seen around the nation in regards to green construction.
